14 DAY TRIAL // The development of the LXLE 16.04.1 GNU/Linux distribution continues, and we're announcing today the availability of the Release Candidate (RC) builds for 64-bit and 32-bit systems.
LXLE "Eclectica" 16.04.1 Release Candidate comes only two weeks after the debut of the Beta version, which was seeded to public beta testers at the beginning of the month but was only available for 64-bit PCs and didn't include the goodies Canonical introduces with the first point release of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) OS.
Therefore, the Release Candidate milestone of LXLE 16.04.1 ships now with more up-to-date GNU/Linux technologies, as well as lots of improvements, such as support for the Btrfs file system, support for multi-monitor configurations, Expose-like window picker, a lightweight app launcher, i3lock screen with autoblur, and new startup splash.
Additionally, there are Assistive Technology apps, a tool that changes the desktop wallpaper at different intervals of time, an Aero-like window snap feature, various new applications from Linux Mint and MATE Stack, a CLI weather app, a more condensed Control Menu, the uCareSystemCore update manager, faster application menu, and latest security updates.
New file manager extensions have been added
Also new in the LXLE 16.04.1 Release Candidate milestone are new file manager extensions that should make your LXLE desktop experience a lot better. These include "Open as root" for opening various files with system administrator privileges, "Set as wallpaper" for setting an image as default desktop background, "Check md5sum" for checking the MD5 checksum of certain files, and "Trash empty" for emptying the trash.
LXLE 16.04.1 Release Candidate is available for download right now via our website for 64-bit and 32-bit platforms. "There is a difference in file size between the 32-bit and the 64-bit, this is due to some packages naturally being larger for the 32-bit version. The 32-bit was built twice from scratch resulting in the same exact size. The ISOs are the same," reads the release announcement.
