The developer of the LXLE GNU/Linux distribution announced the immediate availability for download of the Beta build of his upcoming LXLE 16.04.2 release.

LXLE 16.04.2 Beta is here to address various of the issues that have been discovered since the previous version of the distro, namely LXLE 16.04.1, but also to improve some of the functionalities and sync the software repositories with the upstream ones of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system.

Among the components that received attention in the LXLE 16.04.2 Beta release, we can mention the Update Manager, Xterm, keymaps, drivers, repositories, languages, installers, panels, plugins, tooltips, power management, Openbox settings, firewall settings, xl-wallpaper-config, default background, weather, and bootloader.

"This Beta of LXLE 16.04.2 is all about fixing crap that wasn't right or was broken in the previous version. What a rough release 16.04.1 came to be, from unforeseen errors to in-house developer screw ups, it simply wasn't pretty," reveals the dev. "Numerous other small obscure adjustments have also been made throughout the system."

LXLE 16.04.2 will be based on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS

As the headline suggests, and as you might have guessed, the upcoming LXLE 16.04.2 release will be based on Canonical's Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS point release for the Xenial Xerus series, which comes with updated graphics and kernel stacks from the Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) operating system.

Those of you who want to take this Beta release of LXLE 16.04.2 for a test drive on their personal computers can download either the 64- or 32-bit Live ISO images right now from our website. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, so make sure that you do not use it as your daily driver.
