After being in development for the past couple of months, the LXLE 16.04.1 "Eclectica" GNU/Linux distribution sees an official release based on the recently announced Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system.

Coming only a few days after the debut of the RC build, the final LXLE 16.04.1 "Eclectica" build is here, available for download for 64-bit and 32-bit computers. It includes pretty much the same features that were available in the Release Candidate milestone, such as support for the Btrfs file system by default, support for multi-monitor configurations, and the implementation of an Expose-like window picker.

Moreover, LXLE 16.04.1 ships with a lightweight application launcher, an Aero-like window snap feature, the i3 lock screen with autoblur support, and new startup splash, a command-line weather app, a more condensed Control Menu, new Assistive Technology applications, a tool that randomly changes the desktop background at different intervals of time, and the new uCareSystemCore update manager.

"This version of LXLE was pretty difficult. A number of Gnome apps had to be replaced with their Mate twin application to maintain a consistent user interface. Many programs and solutions had to come from many different sources to make 16.04.1 of LXLE possible. A very eclectic OS. Hence the name, Eclectica," say the LXLE developers in the release announcement.

New applications have been imported from Linux Mint and the MATE Stack

The LXLE 16.04.1 "Eclectica" release also comes with new default applications, pre-installed in the Live ISO images. Most of these apps have been imported from the Linux Mint operating system, as well as the MATE Stack, despite the fact that the distro is using the lightweight LXDE desktop environment from the Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) OS.

The latest security updates and a much faster application menu are also among the new features of LXLE 16.04.1, which you can download right now via our website for 64-bit and 32-bit hardware architectures. More details about LXLE 16.04.1 should be available in the official announcement. Don't hesitate to also check out the gallery below if you want to see LXLE 16.04.1 "Eclectica" in action.
