Nokia Lumia 520 is one of the oldest Windows Phone handsets that can still be purchased in some parts of the world despite the fact that it was released more than two years ago.

Unveiled back in February 2013, the Lumia 520 made its debut on the market two months later. The smartphone was released with Windows Phone 8 onboard, but Microsoft upgraded the Lumia 520 to Windows Phone 8.1 in the meantime.

Now that Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner, it remains to be seen whether or not the most popular Windows Phone handset will receive the new version of the OS as an update.

Microsoft has already confirmed many of the smartphones that will receive Windows 10 Mobile updates, but Lumia 520 is not among these devices yet.

Since its launch back in 2013, Lumia 520 was the best-selling Windows Phone handset available on the market. To this day, none of the affordable smartphones launched by Microsoft manages to overpass Lumia 520's popularity.

Microsoft's Windows 10 Mobile portfolio lacks affordable phones for now

The latest infographic from AdDuplex confirms once again that Lumia 520 remains the most popular Windows Phone handset with 14.6% market share.

Even though its market share dropped in the last year or so, none of the other contenders managed to outrank the Lumia 520.

The number two most popular Windows Phone smartphone is the Lumia 535 with 10.8%, which is a 0.5% increase from last month.

Nokia Lumia 630 is on the third position with 9.1% while Nokia Lumia 635 is right behind, on fourth place, with 7.4% market share.

We have a feeling that Lumia 520 will remain the world's most popular Windows Phone handset for at least several more months. Or maybe Microsoft's new affordable Windows 10 Mobile handset, Lumia 550, will dethrone it?
