Lottery officials insist it was just an odd technical error

This past Tuesday, during a live broadcast of the Serbian State Lottery, a most bizarre thing happened: one of the winning numbers appeared on screen before being actually drawn.

Apparently, whoever was in charge of displaying the winning numbers turned Nostradamus for a split second and predicted the lucky combination the machine was about to cough out before all the yellow balls were in their rightful place in the plastic bowl.

The first three numbers were properly called out. When the fourth ball fell from the machine, however, the number 21 appeared on screen instead of 27, which was what the fourth ball showed. It didn't matter, though, because the fifth ball came out sporting the number 21.

Check out the video below to see how it all played out. Easy enough to notice, the presenter calling out the numbers didn't expect something like this to happen and was left quite confused.

People are crying foul

Naturally, the mishap did not go unnoticed, and the Serbian State Lottery now stands accused of not being all that honest. People are convinced the draw was rigged, and truth be told, it does look like this is what happened.

A police investigation is underway, and lottery employees are being interviewed in an attempt to get to the bottom of this bizarre occurrence.

What's interesting is that, although lottery officials insist that it was just a coincidence that the number that was accidentally displayed turned out to be a winning one, the head of the Serbian State Lottery nonetheless resigned shortly after the incident.

By the looks of it, Aleksandar Vulovic handed in his resignation not because he was feeling a tad guilty but because he considered he had a moral obligation to do so, DM reports.

“Police and prosecutors will be doing their job. If there was an offense committed, they will respond. For such a breach of trust somebody needs to be held responsible,” he told the press in an interview.
