If we are to even stand a chance to make the most of what life has to offer, we have to learn to prioritize. Robert Wright of Fresno, California, is all too familiar with this simple truth.

That's why, when a fire broke out in his apartment building, he made sure to rescue his most prized possessions: his family and a gigantic slab of barbecued ribs.

The man acted on impulse

It was this past Tuesday, at about 3 in the morning, that a fire suddenly broke out in the apartment complex Robert Wright lives in together with his family.

At the time, the man was feeling a tad hungry and so, while his family was sleeping or at least trying to do so, he was cooking himself some barbecued ribs.

When he realized that the apartment next to his was on fire, brave Robert Wright rushed to get his children and his wife out of the building. Then, once they were safe, he returned for the barbecued ribs. He says he simply didn't have the heart to abandon the juicy treat in the blaze.

Not when he was especially hungry when the fire started and couldn't stand the thought of leaving a perfectly good slab of delicious ribs to burn and go to waste.

“I got my kids first and I thought about my ribs and like I didn’t want let my ribs burn and stuff cos I take pride in what I do man,” the man confessed in an interview.

Nobody was injured in the fire

A mother and a 6-year-old child had to jump out of a window when the fire broke out and their apartment was engulfed by flames early Tuesday morning.

However, local law enforcement officers say nobody was injured in the blaze and firefighters didn't take long to put out the flames.

As for Robert Wright, he admits that he might have inhaled some smoke while guiding his family and his ribs to safety, but he's not exactly worried about it.

“I didn't get any injuries apart from the smoke in my lungs. But I already have smoke in my lungs, so that's alright,” he told KMPH reporters.
