Linux Mint project leader Clement Lefebvre announced today, March 13, 2017, the release and immediate availability for download of new installation images to the Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 2 "Betsy" rolling operating system.

Being in the Beta stage of development since the end of January, the new Linux Mint Debian Edition 2 ISOs are finally here in their stable state, ready to be downloaded, burned to DVD discs or written on USB flash drives, and deployed on new computers.

They should also come in handy to those who plan on reinstalling their LMDE 2 "Betsy" systems because most of the pre-installed components have been brought up to date, but existing users need only to update their installations.

"This is the stable release for these new images. LMDE 2 received many updates in the last 2 years, including many improvements which were ported from Linux Mint as well as all the new versions of MATE, Cinnamon and the Xapps," reads today's announcement.

64-bit and 32-bit ISOs of LMDE 2 are now available to download

With this announcement, both the 64-bit and 32-bit ISO images of the Linux Mint Debian Edition 2 "Betsy" operating system have been published and are available for download from the official website or via our Linux software downloads portal.

As mentioned before, if you're using LMDE 2 and have a healthy installation, there's no need for you to download these new, up-to-date ISOs. All you have to do is to make sure that all the released updates are correctly installed.

In the same manner, those who have downloaded the Beta versions of the new LDME 2 ISO images do not need to download these stable ISOs because there aren't any major changes. Just make sure that you update the system immediately after installation.
