Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce has been announced by the Linux Mint team, and users are now free to download and install it. The distro comes with the latest Xfce 4.12 desktop environment, among other improvements.

The Linux Mint developers are working on four different flavors of their operating system, and we're only counting the ones based on Ubuntu: Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, and KDE. The first two have priority, and they are the first to be released. The KDE and Xfce versions are made available a few months later, but they always arrive together.

Ever since the Linux Mint team announced that it was using only Ubuntu LST as a base, the development cycle for the distribution has picked up a lot of Steam. From the looks of it, we'll keep getting these intermediate upgrades for a long time. They might not provide any major features, but they do come with a ton of smaller improvements and fixes.

Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce has arrived

The KDE edition of Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" has arrived alongside the Xfce one, and we've already covered that release if you want to take a look. The Xfce edition is not much more interesting, but that was to be expected.

"Linux Mint 17.2 is a long term support release that will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable to use. Linux Mint 17.2 features the latest Xfce 4.12 desktop environment. Linux Mint 17.2 features Xfce 4.12, MDM 2.0, a Linux kernel 3.16 and an Ubuntu 14.04 package base," reads the official announcement.

You can download Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce right now from Softpedia and give it a spin. This is a Live CD image, and it should work just fine, even in a virtual environment.
