Immediately after having announced the release of Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" KDE Edition RC (Release Candidate), Clement Lefebvre, leader and main developer of the Linux Mint project, has informed us about the immediate availability for download and testing of Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce Edition Release Candidate.

Boasting pretty much the same features as the KDE edition, the Release Candidate version of the forthcoming Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce Edition Linux distribution is based on Canonical's Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system and built around the latest Xfce 4.12 open-source desktop environment.

The distribution contains updated versions of main components, including Login Screen (MDM 2.0), Language Settings, Update Manager, Software Sources, as well as new artwork, lots of under-the-hood improvements, better support for UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) systems, as well as improved support for the latest Nvidia and Optimus video cards.

"Linux Mint 17.2 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use," says Clement Lefebvre in the release announcement of Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce Edition RC.

Powered by Linux kernel 3.16

Powered by Linux kernel 3.16, Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce Edition Release Candidate brings updated applications, such as the LibreOffice 4.4.3 office suite, HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.15.2, and InkScape 0.91. The HAL technology has been added as well in order to provide built-in support for DRM playback in Adobe Flash.

As usual, those of you who want to take the Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Xfce Edition Release Candidate for a test drive can download the 32-bit and 64-bit ISO images right now via Softpedia or directly from the distribution's website. As this is a pre-release version, we don't recommend installing it on production environments.
