Users are urged to update their Linux systems immediately

As promised, Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman released today a set of new updates for the long-term supported Linux 4.14, 4.9, 4.4, and 3.18 kernel series.

These new kernels come just one week after their previous releases to add more x86 updates to protect users against the Meltdown and Spectre security vulnerabilities disclosed earlier this month. They also include various updated GPU, InfiniBand, USB, crypto, sound, networking drivers, as well as some core networking changes.

Linux kernel 4.14.14 changes a total of 130 files, with 2524 insertions and 542 deletions, Linux kernel 4.9.77 LTS changes 112 files, with 2306 insertions and 466 deletions, Linux kernel 4.4.112 LTS changes 90 files, with 1811 insertions and 523 deletions, and Linux kernel 3.18.92 changes 38 files, with 487 insertions and 192 deletions.

All users must update their systems as soon as possible

As Greg Kroah-Hartman noted in his update published earlier this month on the state of the Meltdown and Spectre patches in the Linux kernel, users must make it a habit to keep their systems up-to-date at all times, especially when a new kernel release is available. So update your systems immediately if you've received these kernels.

We strongly recommend all OS vendors to download and compile either the Linux 4.14.14, 4.9.77, 4.4.112, or 3.18.92 kernels for their GNU/Linux distributions and release them as updates in the stable software repositories for users to install them as soon as possible. You can grab the sources of each of these new kernel version right now from kernel.org.

The updated git trees can be found at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.14.y, git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.9.y, git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.4.y, and git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.18.y.
