Renowned Linux kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman had the pleasure of announcing the release of three new maintenance updates for the long-term supported Linux 4.9 and 4.4 kernels series, as well as Linux kernel 4.10.

The Linux 4.10.9, 4.9.21 LTS and 4.4.60 LTS kernels are now the latest versions of the kernel branches mentioned above, and they come exactly one week after the release of their previous maintenance updates, namely Linux kernels 4.10.8, 4.9.20 LTS and 4.4.59 LTS. The difference is that these are bigger patches, changing 91 files, with 1229 insertions and 1067 deletions for Linux kernel 4.10.9, and 87 files, with 1332 insertions and 1109 deletions for Linux kernel 4.9.21 LTS.

"I'm announcing the release of the 4.10.9 [4.9.21 and 4.4.60] kernel. All users of the 4.10 [4.9 and 4.4] kernel series must upgrade. The updated 4.10.y [4.9.y and 4.4.y] git trees can be found at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.10.y, git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.9.y, and git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.4.y," said Greg Kroah-Hartman.

Lots of XFS and PA-RISC improvements, updated drivers

We didn't say anything above about changes of the Linux 4.4.60 LTS kernel because it's a small update this time, changing a total of 28 files, with 387 insertions and 133 deletions, and it looks like most of the patch is made up of updated drivers (ACPI, Radeon, MD, RTC, SCSI, TTY, USB). As for the Linux 4.10.9 and 4.9.21 LTS kernels, they bring lots of improvements to the XFS file system and PA-RICS architecture, as well as sound, mm, x86, and ARM bug fixes.

Of course, they also contain updated drivers, for things like ACPI, crypto, GPU (Intel i915, Armada, Etnaviv, Radeon, VC4), HID, MD, MMC, NVM Express (NVMe), PCI, SCSI, TTY, and USB. You can download the source tarballs of the Linux kernel 4.9.21 LTS and Linux kernel 4.4.60 LTS, as well as Linux kernel 4.10.9 from kernel.org via our website. If you're using a GNU/Linux distribution powered by a kernel from any of these branches, we recommend updating your systems as soon as possible.
