Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.8.11, renowned Linux kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman informed the community about the availability of the thirty-fifth maintenance update to the long-term supported Linux 4.4 series.

Hitting the streets only five days after the Linux 4.4.34 patch, Linux kernel 4.4.35 LTS is a small update that changes a total of 34 files, with 309 insertions and 102 deletions, according to the appended shortlog and the diff from the previous point release. For those of you who don't know yet, Linux 4.4 is a long-term supported kernel branch used in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Alpine Linux, and other well-known distributions.

"I'm announcing the release of the 4.4.35 kernel. All users of the 4.4 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 4.4.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.4.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

There are minor x86 improvements, but it mostly contains updated drivers

Being a small update and all that, Linux kernel 4.4.35 LTS has a little bit of everything, starting with a handful of improvements for the x86 hardware architecture, a couple of EXT4 fixes, a patch for the FUSE file system, an updated networking stack that adds a Netfilter change to fix element timeout for HZ != 1000, and updates for InfiniBand (mlx4 and mlx5), MFD, RTC, UWB, Wireless (iwlwifi), I2C, Crypto, CLK, and GPU (AMDGPU) drivers.

As usual, this is a recommended update for everyone using a Linux-based operating system powered by a kernel from the Linux 4.4 series. Please upgrade your PC to Linux kernel 4.4.35 LTS as soon as it hits the stable repositories of your favorite distro. In the meantime, OS vendors and power users can compile the sources, which they can download right now from kernel.org or through our web portal.
