After announcing the release of the Linux 4.2.3 kernel, Greg Kroah-Hartman has informed the world today, October 3, about the release and immediate availability for download of the tenth maintenance version of the Linux 4.1 LTS kernel series.

According to the appended shortlog, Linux kernel 4.1.10 LTS is here to improve the overall networking functionality by updating several drivers, especially for things like Altera, Freescale, Marvell, and Mellanox MLX4, but also for Dynamic Search Algorithm (DSA), MacVTap, Ethernet PHY, Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN), and USB.

Moreover, Linux kernel 4.1.10 LTS brings with it many other networking improvements for the IPv6 and IPv4 network protocols, for the Open vSwitch multilayer virtual switch, for Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP), as well as for things like Bridge, NetLink, and scheduler.

"I'm announcing the release of the 4.1.10 kernel. All users of the 4.1 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 4.1.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.1.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 4.1 LTS kernel series must update

As expected, all users of Linux kernel-based computer operating systems that are powered by a kernel from the Linux 4.1 LTS (Long-Term Support) series are urged to update their kernel package to the Linux 4.1.10 LTS release as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the new version arrives in the default software repositories of their GNU/Linux distribution.

Additionally, we're urging operating system vendors to download the Linux kernel 4.1.10 LTS sources right now from either Softpedia or the kernel.org website, whichever suits them best, and start compiling by hand, then push the new kernel package to their repos as soon as possible.
