All users of the 4.0 kernel series must update

On the last days of June, Greg Kroah-Hartman announced the availability of several maintenance releases for the Linux kernels 4.1, 4.0, 3.14, and 3.10. The seventh point release of Linux kernel 4.0 is a small one that brings mostly updated drivers.

Looking at the changelog, we can notice that Linux kernel 4.0.7 adds a few improvements to the ARM, x86, and PowerPC architectures, and updates several drivers, especially for things like Bluetooth, InfiniBand, GPU, CLK, USB, MD, crypto, and networking.

Among some noteworthy changes, we can mention the addition of support for ATOL FPrint fiscal printers, support for 0489:e076 and 13d3:3474 AR3012 devices in the ath3k driver, support for the 14e4:4321 PCI dev with BCM4321 chipset in the b43 driver, as well as enhancements for the initalization of context state saves.

"I'm announcing the release of the 4.0.7 kernel. All users of the 4.0 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 4.0.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the 4.0 kernel series must upgrade as soon as possible

As expected, Greg Kroah-Hartman urges all users of the Linux 4.0 kernel branch to upgrade their installations as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the new maintenance release becomes live in the main software repositories of their GNU/Linux distributions.

Experienced users and operating system vendors who know how to compile a kernel can download the Linux kernel 4.0.7 sources right now via Softpedia or from the kernel.org website. At the moment of writing this article, Linux kernel 4.0.7 is already available in the official repositories of the Arch Linux distribution.
