A couple of days ago, kernel developer Zefan Li released the one hundred twelfth maintenance build of the long-term supported Linux 3.4 kernel series for stable GNU/Linux users.

It has been a little over a month since GNU/Linux users received a point release for the Linux 3.4 LTS (Long Term Support) kernel packages, and it looks like Linux kernel 3.4.112 LTS packs some very interesting improvements and bug fixes. In numbers, it changes a total of 117 files, with 874 insertions and 267 deletions.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.4.112 kernel. All users of the 3.4 kernel series must upgrade," said Zefan Li. "The updated 3.4.y git tree can be found at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/lizf/linux-3.4.y.git tags/v3.4.112 and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

What's new in Linux kernel 3.4.112 LTS

According to the diff from version 3.4.111, Linux kernel 3.4.112 LTS adds multiple improvements to the PowerPC (PPC), x86, ARM, m68k, and MIPS hardware architectures. It also brings several fixes for the Btrfs, eCryptfs, CIFS, EXT4, GFS2, HFS, HFS+, HostFS, NFS, OCFS2, ReiserFS, and XFS filesystems.

There are also small crypto, mm, core kernel, perf, SELinux, sound and networking stack (mac80211, SunRPC, IPv6) improvements, as well as numerous updated drivers, in particular for things like Graphic KS0108 LCD, GPU (mostly Nouveau and Radeon), InfiniBand, IOMMU, Macintosh Windfarm thermal control, MD, MTD, Wireless, PCI, TTY, USB, and SCSI.

We recommend all users of GNU/Linux operating systems powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 3.4 series to update to version 3.4.112 as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as it lands in the main software repositories of the respective OS. Alternatively, you can download the Linux kernel 3.4.112 LTS sources right now via our website or directly from kernel.org.
