After the release of the Linux kernel 4.4.3 LTS, Linux Kernel 3.10.98 LTS, Linux Kernel 3.14.62 LTS, and Linux kernel 4.5 RC6, we're now informing our GNU/Linux readers about the availability of Linux kernel 3.2.78 LTS.

Linux kernel 3.2.78 LTS is the seventy-eighth maintenance release in the long-term supported Linux 3.2 kernel series, and according to the appended shortlog most of the changes are updated drivers, in particular for things like ATA, GPU, InfiniBand, DVB, PPP, TTY, SCSI, PCI, Virtio, and, of course, lots of USB ones. But there are also multiple sound drivers updates as well.

Additionally, Linux kernel 3.2.78 LTS improves the Btrfs file system, as well as the Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2), adds a few core networking changes, especially for things like rfkill and SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol), fixes a couple of issues with the x86 and ARM hardware architectures, and includes the usual crypto, perf, mm, and core kernel improvements.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.2.78 kernel. All users of the 3.2 kernel series should upgrade," said Ben Hutchings. "The updated 3.2.y git tree can be found at: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.2.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git."

Users are urged to update as soon as possible

In numbers, the seventy-eighth maintenance release of Linux kernel 3.2 changes a total of 72 files, with 843 insertions and 353 deletions, and it is a recommended update for all users of GNU/Linux operating systems that are powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 3.2 branch. So please check the software repositories of your distribution in the coming days for a kernel update.

OS vendors and advanced users can manually update their kernel packages to Linux kernel 3.2.78 LTS by downloading the sources right now from the kernel.org website or directly from Softpedia. With this occasion, we're also urging operating system vendors to update their kernel packages as soon as possible and push the new version to the main repos for users to upgrade.
