Linux kernel developer and maintainer Ben Hutchings announced a few minutes ago, January 23, 2015, the immediate availability for download of the seventy-sixth maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.2 kernel.

According to the diff from Linux kernel 3.2.75 LTS, the new maintenance release brings a few fixes for the MIPS, s390, PA-RISC, and x86 (KVM related) hardware architectures, addresses an issue with the Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2), and improves the networking stack with fixes for IPv4, IPv6, RFKill, RxRPC, and SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol).

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.2.76 kernel. All users of the 3.2 kernel series should upgrade," said Ben Hutchings. "The updated 3.2.y git tree can be found at: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.2.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git."

Sound fixes, updated drivers

In addition to the architecture, filesystems, and networking improvements mentioned above, Linux kernel 3.2.76 LTS adds a few sound fixes related to USB support, and a couple of mm improvements. There are also many updated drivers, especially for things like ATA, Block, CD-ROM, GPU (Radeon), HID, I2C, ISDN, SCSI, SPI, TTY, USB, and Xen. A security issue and a few other under-the-hood fixes are also present.

All users of the Linux 3.2 kernel series are urged to update their systems to version 3.2.76 as soon as possible. This can be done either by checking the default software repositories of their GNU/Linux operating systems for the new maintenance release in the coming days or by manually updating by compiling the sources, which they can download right now from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia.
