The seventy-one maintenance release to the Linux 3.2 kernel has been announced by its maintainer, Ben Hutchings, this past weekend, a release that brings mostly updated drivers, but also some architecture, networking, and sound improvements.

According to the appended diff from Linux kernel 3.2.70 LTS, the new maintenance release brings with it several enhancements to the s390 and x86 hardware architectures, as well as to the Btrfs, EXT4, 9P, FUSE, JBD2, and NFS file systems, multiple sound improvements, and some non-driver networking fixes.

There are, of course, numerous updated drivers in Linux kernel 3.2.71 LTS (Long-Term Support), especially for things like Watchdog, Virtual Host, USB, TTY, iSCSI, iiO, SCSI, PCMCIA, MTD, Networking, DVB, MMC, MD, GPU (mostly Radeon), DMA, Crypto, Bluetooth, ATA, and ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface).

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.2.71 kernel. All users of the 3.2 kernel series should upgrade," says Ben Hutchings. "The updated 3.2.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.2.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git."

All users of the Linux 3.2 LTS kernel series must update as soon as possible

Ben Hutchings urges all users of the Linux 3.2 LTS kernel series to upgrade to the Linux 3.2.71 LTS release as soon as possible, or more exactly as soon as the new kernel package arrives in the default software repositories of their GNU/Linux operating systems.

Please keep in mind that if you are a distribution vendor and you want to update your Linux 3.2 LTS kernel packages to version 3.2.71, you can download the Linux kernel 3.2.71 LTS archive right now from Softpedia or directly from the kernel.org website, whichever suits you best.
