Sasha Levin, the maintainer of the Linux 3.18 LTS kernel series, is happy to announce the immediate availability for download and update of the twenty-first maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.18 kernel.

According to the appended shortlog, Linux kernel 3.18.21 LTS is here to add improvements to the ARM, ARM64, AVR32, MIPS, PowerPC (PPC), s390, SPARC, and x86 hardware architectures, to fix issues in the Btrfs, HPFS, NFS, and OCFS2 file systems, to enhance the networking and sound infrastructures, as well as to update multiple drivers, especially for things like ACPI, ATA, Bluetooth, CLK, CPUFreq, Crypto, GPU, HID, I2C, iiO, MD, MMC, PHY, SCSI, iSCSI, USB, and Xen.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.18.21 kernel. All users of the 3.18 kernel series must upgrade," says Sasha Levin. "The updated 3.18.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.18.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.18 LTS kernel series must update as soon as possible

As usual with any new kernel release, we recommend all users of the respective branch to update as soon as possible, or more precisely immediately after the new version becomes available in the default software repositories of their Linux kernel-based operating system. Distribution vendors are also urged to update the kernel package at their earliest convenience.

You can download Linux kernel 3.18.21 LTS right now from Softpedia or directly from the kernel.org website, but please keep in mind that these are only the sources, which need to be configured and compiled by hand, an operation that could take a few hours on a decent computer. Compilation of the Linux kernel packages is recommended only to advanced users and kernel maintainers.
