A new maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.18 kernel series was announced on July 21 by none other than its maintainer, Sasha Levin. Linux kernel 3.18.19 LTS is now available for download.

According to the appended shortlog, Linux kernel 3.18.19 LTS is a normal release that contains several improvements to the x86 hardware architecture, as well as multiple updated drivers, especially for things like EDAC, IOMMU, KVM on s390, Xen, Synaptics, Networking, USB, and TTY.

Additionally, there are some enhancements for the ARM architectures, a few improvements to the Btrfs, UFS (Unix File System), sysfs, and NFS (Network File System) file systems, and multiple networking fixes, especially for the netfilter packet filtering framework.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.18.19 kernel. All users of the 3.18 kernel series must upgrade," says Sasha Levin. "The updated 3.18.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.18 kernel series must update as soon as possible

As expected, Sasha Levin urges all users of the Linux 3.18 kernel series, which is an LTS (Long Term Support) release that received security patches and updated drivers for a few more years than the normal kernel branches, to upgrade to Linux kernel 3.18.19 as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the update arrives in the main software repositories of their GNU/Linux distributions.

Advanced users and Linux distro vendors are also urged to download Linux kernel 3.18.19 LTS from either the kernel.org website or via Softpedia, whichever suits them best, and compile/update the kernel packages of their Linux kernel-based operating systems immediately.
