Sasha Levin, the maintainer of the Linux 3.18 kernel series, has recently announced the immediate availability for download of Linux kernel 3.18.18, an LTS (Long Term Support) branch that receives security patches and bug fixes for a couple of years more than regular kernel branches.

Looking at the appended shortlog, we can notice that Linux kernel 3.18.18 LTS is here to bring numerous improvements to the ARM and ARM64 (AArch64) architectures, as well as various changes to the MIPS, ARC, x86, s390, and PowerPC (PPC) architectures, improvements to the EXT4, FUSE, NFS, jbd2, and XFS file systems, and many networking and sound enhancements.

Additionally, the eighteenth maintenance release of the Linux 3.18 kernel series comes with dozens of updated drivers, especially for things like ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), ATA, Bluetooth, CLK, CPUFreq, Crypto, DMA, general-purpose input/output (GPIO), DRM, HID, I2C, iiO, InfiniBand, MD, DVB, MMC, NFC, PCI, networking (Wireless and Ethernet), PCMCIA, PINCTRL, SCSI, SPI, TTY, USB, and WL.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.18.18 kernel. All users of the 3.18 kernel series must upgrade," says Sasha Levin. "The updated 3.18.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.18 kernel branch must update as soon as possible

As expected, it is strongly recommended that you update to the Linux kernel 3.18.18 LTS release as soon as possible, or as soon as the kernel packages of your GNU/Linux distribution are updated. Those who want to compile the kernel themselves are invited to download Linux kernel 3.18.18 LTS right now via Softpedia or from the kernel.org website.
