Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.6.3 and Linux kernel 4.4.14 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman informed the community about the availability of Linux kernel 3.14.73 LTS.

Linux 3.14 is a long-term supported kernel branch that should receive maintenance updates for a couple of months, until August 2016. There are a few Linux kernel-based operating systems out there still using this kernel branch, such as Google's Chrome OS, so it is wise to update your system as soon as possible to the Linux kernel 3.14.73 LTS release even if it's a small one that only changes 25 files, with 798 insertions and 758 deletions.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.73 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Here's what's new in Linux kernel 3.14.73 LTS

Taking a quick look at the changes implemented in Linux kernel 3.14.73 LTS, we can notice various small improvements to the PA-RISC, PowerPC (PPC), x86, MIPS, and ARM hardware architectures, multiple networking stack updates, in particular for things like Netfilter on both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, IPv6 TCP, and Netlink. Moreover, the XFS, eCryptfs and procfs filesystem also received minor enhancements.

Last but not least, the crypto and Ethernet drivers were fixed. If you're using a GNU/Linux operating system powered by a kernel from the Linux 3.14 LTS series, you are urged to update to the Linux kernel 3.14.73 LTS release as soon as possible. OS vendors can download the Linux kernel 3.14.73 LTS sources right now via our website or directly from kernel.org.
