After releasing the Linux kernel 4.6.1, Linux kernel 4.5.6, and Linux kernel 4.4.12 LTS updates, Greg Kroah-Hartman informed the community about the availability of Linux kernel 3.14.71 LTS.

All the latest maintenance release announced during the past few months for the long-term supported Linux 3.14 kernel series have been small in changes, and Linux kernel 3.14.71 LTS is no different. According to the appended shortlog, it changes a total of 23 files, with 188 insertions and 81 deletions. The Linux 3.14 kernel branch will receive support for a couple of month, until August 2016.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.71 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Here's what's in Linux kernel 3.14.71 LTS

Looking at the diff from the previous maintenance release, version 3.14.70, the Linux kernel 3.14.71 update fixes the CIFS (Common Internet File System) anonymous (guest) authentication via the NTLMSSP protocol, add support for Cinterion PH8 and AHxx Wireless Ethernet Adapters, no longer uses src fd for printk in the Btrfs file system, and addresses multiple use-after-free in probe error path for the USB sub-system.

Additionally, Linux kernel 3.14.71 LTS, whose sources you can download right now via the kernel.org website or directly from Softpedia, resolves the partition switch timeout issue reported by users with some eMMCs, and fixes various other small bugs for Bluetooth, Crypto, TTY, ACPI, and MFD drivers, as well as the ARM64 (AArch64) hardware architectures. Please update as soon as possible!
