We reported earlier the release of the sixth maintenance build of the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel series, and in this article, we would like to inform you about the availability of Linux kernel 3.14.65 LTS.

The sixty-fifth maintenance release in the Linux 3.14 LTS series is a small one, and according to the appended shortlog, which includes the diff from the Linux kernel 3.14.64 LTS maintenance build announced last week, it only has a little over 20 changes.

In numbers, a total of 27 files have been changed for Linux kernel 3.14.65 LTS, with 566 insertions and 214 deletions, and among the changes we can mention small improvements to the PowerPC (PPC) and x86 hardware architectures, a couple of fixes for the mac80211 network framework, and a few sound enhancements.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.65 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

EFIVarFS file system received some improvements

Besides the improved architectures, as well as the sound and networking stack updates mentioned above, Linux kernel 3.14.65 LTS also brings several improvements to the EFIVarFS (U)EFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) variable file system. Of course, some small under-the-hood, crypto, and tools fixes are also present.

Our tech-savvy users interested in the exact changes applied to the sixty-fifth maintenance release of the Linux 3.14 LTS series should read the appended shortlog (link above), otherwise, you can download the Linux kernel 3.14.65 LTS sources right now from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia.

As always, we're urging all users to update as soon as possible!
