The sixty-third maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.14 kernel series has been announced by renowned kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman.

Linux kernel 3.14.63 LTS appears to be a standard point release that contains fixes and patches for all sort of things, starting with updates to various architectures, in particular for MIPS (KVM issues) and x86, but also ARM, ARC, SPARC, and s390, and continuing with improvements to the Btrfs, HostFS, procfs, and NFS filesystems.

Moreover, the appended shortlog shows that the networking stack has also been improved in Linux kernel 3.14.63 LTS, bringing various changes to the IPv6 and IPv4 protocols, as well as to minor enhancements to Ceph, mac80211, Netfilter, rfkill, SunRPC, and Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS).

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.63 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary. "

Numerous drivers have been updated

In addition to the architectures, filesystems, and networking stack enhancements mentioned above, Linux kernel 3.14.63 LTS includes a significant number of updated drivers, especially for things like GPU (mostly Radeon), EDAC, hwmon, InfiniBand, IRQ chip, MD, USB, MMC, DVB, PCI, and SCSI. A few crypto and core kernel changes are also present.

In numbers, Linux kernel 3.14.63 LTS changes a total of 137 files, with 934 insertions and 518 deletions. As usual, if you're using a GNU/Linux operating system powered by a kernel from the Linux 3.14 LTS kernel series, you are urged to update as soon as possible. The Linux kernel 3.14.63 LTS sources are available for download from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia.
