Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.1.4 LTS and Linux kernel 3.10.85 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman has informed us all that the forty-ninth maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.14 kernel is now available for download.

According to Mr. Kroah-Hartman's announcement, Linux kernel 3.14.49 LTS is a fairly normal release that brings some improvements to ARM64, ARC, and MIPS hardware architectures, as well as to the EXT4, Btrfs, FUSE, XFS, NFS, HPFS, and jbd2 file systems. However, it also includes some networking fixes, especially for mac80211, Ceph, and SunRPC, various security enhancements, as well as multiple sound improvements.

Furthermore, Linux kernel 3.14.49 LTS (Long Term Support) brings numerous updated drivers, especially for things like ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), ATA, Bluetooth, CPUIdle, DMA, DRM (mostly Radeon), hwmon, iiO, I2C, InfiniBand, LEDs, MD, DVB Frontends, MMC, MTD, Wireless (ath9k), PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association), PINCTRL (PIN CONTROL), SCSI, SPI, iSCSI, USB, and Watchdog.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.49 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.14 kernel branch must update as soon as possible
