Jiri Slaby, the maintainer of the long-term supported Linux 3.12 kernel series, has just announced the release and immediate availability for download of the forty-ninth maintenance version of the Linux 3.12 LTS kernel.

Looking at the appended shortlog, we can notice that Linux kernel 3.12.49 LTS adds multiple improvements to the PowerPC (PPC), ARM64 (AArch64), ARM, PA-RISC, x86, and Xtensa hardware architectures, addresses many issues with the Btrfs, EXT4, HFS, HFS+, and NFS filesystems, adds some minor sound improvements, and many networking enhancements, especially for things like IPv6, mac80211, NetLink, Open vSwitch, and Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP).

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.12.49 kernel. All users of the 3.12 kernel series must upgrade," says Jiri Slaby. "The updated 3.12.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.12.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Several drivers have been updated

In addition to the Arch, networking, and filesystems, and sound improvements, Linux kernel 3.12.49 LTS brings with it several updated drivers, especially for things like KS0108B LCD, CLK, GPU (mostly Radeon), HID, iiO, InfiniBand, MD, MMC, networking (mostly Ethernet, but also Wireless and USB), PCI, SCSI, TTY, USB, and Xen. In numbers, the new maintenance release of the Linux 3.12 LTS kernel modifies 101 files with 992 insertions and 486 deletions.

As usual, all users of the Linux 3.12 LTS kernel branch are urged to update to the forty-ninth maintenance release as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the new version arrives in the default software repositories of their GNU/Linux operating systems. Alternatively, you can download the Linux kernel 3.12.49 LTS sources right now from either via Softpedia or from the kernel.org website.
