All users of the Linux 3.12 kernel series must update

On the last day of July, Jiri Slaby, the maintainer of the Linux 3.12 kernel series, which is an LTS (Long Term Support) version supported with patches and driver updates for a few more years than normal kernel releases, announced the immediate availability for download of the forty-fifth maintenance release of Linux kernel 3.12 LTS.

Looking at the appended shortlog, we can notice that Linux kernel 3.12.45 LTS adds various improvements to the ARC, ARM, ARM64, x86, MIPS, SPARC, and PowerPC (PPC) hardware architectures, updates numerous drivers, especially for things like ATA, Bluetooth, CPUFreq, CPUIdle, Crypto, DRM (mostly Intel i915), HID, iiO, IOMMU, MTD, PCI, PCMCIA, SCSI, SH, Thermal, TTY, and USB, adds enhancements to the Btrfs and UFS file systems, and fixes multiple networking and sound issues.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.12.45 kernel. All users of the 3.12 kernel series must upgrade. The updated 3.12.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.12.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary," says Jiri Slaby.

All users of the Linux 3.12 LTS kernel series must upgrade now

As expected, Jiri Slaby urges all users of the Linux 3.12 LTS kernel series to upgrade to the 3.12.45 release as soon as possible, or as soon as the updates become live on the main channels of their GNU/Linux distribution. Distro vendors and advanced users who know how to compile a kernel can update right now by downloading the Linux kernel 3.12.45 LTS sources from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia.
