After informing us of the release of Linux kernel 4.2.5, Linux kernel 4.1.12 LTS, and Linux kernel 3.14.56 LTS, renowned kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman published details about Linux kernel 3.10.92 LTS.

According to the appended shortlog (a.k.a. the diff from the previous maintenance release of the Linux 3.10 LTS kernel branch, version 3.10.91), Linux kernel 3.10.92 LTS is a small release that adds fixes for the SPARC and M68k hardware architectures, some networking improvements, especially for the Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP), as well as updated drivers (mostly I2C, MD, and networking).

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.92 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.10.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All Linux 3.10 LTS users must upgrade as soon as possible

In numbers, Linux kernel 3.10.92 LTS changes 20 files, with 70 insertions and 42 deletions. Being an LTS (Long-Term Support) release, the Linux 3.10 branch will be maintained by Greg Kroah-Hartman for a few more months, until it reaches end of life and it is replaced with a newer long-term supported kernel series, such as the upcoming Linux kernel 4.4.

If you're using a GNU/Linux distribution powered by a kernel from the Linux 3.10 LTS series, it is strongly recommended that you update to the Linux kernel 3.10.92 LTS release as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the new maintenance release arrives in the default software repositories of your operating system. Alternatively, you can download the Linux kernel 3.10.92 LTS sources right now from either Softpedia or the kernel.org website and start compiling the kernel by hand.
