Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.1.7 LTS and Linux kernel 3.14.52 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman, a renowned kernel developer, published details about the release of the eighty-eighth maintenance version of the Linux 3.10 LTS kernel series.

Looking at the appended shortlog, we can notice that Linux kernel 3.10.88 LTS is here to add a new OLAND PCI ID to the Radeon video driver, fix the fc_fcp_cleanup_each_cmd() function in libfc, address a use after free issue on IPC_RMID, which occurred after a task used the same semaphore set exits in IPC, and repair a memory corruption in ahash_final_ctx for Crypto.

Additionally, the hack implemented in the mmap randomize layout of ARM64 architectures has been removed, btrees are now being deleted when releasing metadata snapshot in dm thin metadata, IPC memory barriers have been corrected, and it is now possible to properly access mci->csrows array elements in EDAC/ppc4xx.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.88 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.10.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of Linux 3.10 LTS kernel branch must upgrade

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Linux kernel 3.10.88 LTS fixes fasync handling on inherited events in perf, adds support for using Kbuild files in localmodconfig, and addresses an issue with page refcount of unknown non-LRU pages in mm/hwpoison.

Download Linux kernel 3.10.88 LTS right now via Softpedia or directly from the kernel.org website, whichever suits you best. All users of GNU/Linux distributions powered by a kernel from the Linux 3.10 LTS branch are urged to update to the new release as soon as possible.
