All users of Linux 3.10 LTS kernel series must upgrade

After announcing the release of the Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS, renowned developer Greg Kroah-Hartman published details about the eighty-seven maintenance release of the Linux 3.10 kernel series, urging all users to update as soon as possible.

According to the appended shortlog, Linux kernel 3.10.87 LTS (Long-Term Support) is quite a small release that brings with it various improvements to the ARM, ARM64, SPARC, x86, and PowerPC (PPC) architectures, as well as to the OCFS2 file system, but also several updated drivers, especially for things like USB, Xen, iSCSI, SCSI, GPU, MFD, MD, Crypto, and Block.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.87 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.10.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.10 kernel series must update

If you're GNU/Linux operating system runs on Linux kernel 3.10 LTS, you are urged to update the kernel packages to version 3.10.87, either by downloading the source code from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia and compile it yourself, or through the official channels of your distribution.

Linux distro vendors are also urged to download Linux kernel 3.10.87 LTS and update the kernel packages for their users, then push them to the main software repositories, so that users can quickly apply the update.
