Bruce Dubbs from the Linux From Scratch (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS) projects, which let users build their own Linux-based operating systems from scratch, proudly announced the release of LFS 7.10 and BLFS 7.10.

As GNU/Linux technologies and Open Source software are always advancing and new versions are released all the time with many features and under-the-hood improvements, Linux From Scratch and Beyond Linux From Scratch need to keep up, so that users are always building their systems with support for the latest software builds.

Therefore, Linux From Scratch 7.10 and Beyond Linux From Scratch 7.10 are here to add support for the most important components of a GNU/Linux operating system, such as GCC (GNU Compiler Collection), which has been updated to version 6.2.0, Glibc (GNU C Library), which was bumped to build 2.24, and GNU Binutils 2.27.

"The LFS release includes updates to glibc-2.24, binutils-2.27, and gcc-6.2.0. In total, 29 packages were updated, fixes made to bootscripts, and changes to text have been made throughout the book," says Bruce Dubbs. "The BLFS version [...] has over 810 updates from the previous version including numerous text and formatting changes."

Qt4 and KDE4 are no longer supported in BLFS 7.10

A major change in the Beyond Linux From Scratch (BLFS) 7.10 book is that the Qt4 GUI (Graphical User Interface) toolkit and related KDE4 desktop environment are now longer supported. On the other hand, the systemd version of the book now offers full support for the GNOME desktop environment.

Therefore, you can now get your hands on the Linux From Scratch 7.10, Linux From Scratch 7.10 (systemd), Beyond Linux From Scratch 7.10, and Beyond Linux From Scratch 7.10 (systemd) books if you plan on building your very own GNU/Linux operating system from scratch, not based on any other existing distribution.
