Linus Torvalds announced the release of the Subsurface 4.7.1 update to the open-source and cross-platform dive planning application for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems.

Among the changes implemented in the Subsurface 4.7.1 update, we can mention a new map widget that deprecates the rotating globe, the ability for the green gas icon to change when switching to EAN100, as well as better support for importing dive data from Datatrak, Shearwater desktop, DL7, and other third-party formats.

The data planner component was improved as well in this release with user-friendly cylinder handling, faster planning for long decompression times, compute plan variations, the ability to print delta pressure in results for minimum gas calculations, and support for identifying overlapping dives when calculating dive plans.

Newly supported dive computers, OSTC 4 configuration support

If you were planning to use Subsurface with your favorite dive computer, chances are it's now supported in the Subsurface 4.7.1 update, which adds support the Aqualung i200, Cochran Commander II, Heinrichs Weikamp OSTC+, Shearwater Perdix AI, Suunto D4f, iDive2 Deep, iDive2 Tech+, iDive2 Free, and iDive2 Easy dive computers.

In addition, the iX3M Deep, iX3M Easy, iX3M Pro Easy, iX3M Pro Deep, iX3M Pro Tech+, iX3M Reb, and iX3M Tech+ dive computers are also supported with the new Subsurface release, which introduces support for OSTC 4 configurations, as well as support for multiple tank sensors to report pressure simultaneously.

"This is something that we hadn’t seen before outside of CCR dives, but some newer dive computers support this for example for side mount divers. We now correctly download these data from the dive computers that support it, store and retrieve the pressure data, and visualize multiple tank pressure readings at the same time," reads the release notes.

Experimental support for Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) dive computers has been added as well in Subsurface 4.7.1, which is available to download on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows systems right now through our web portal. Please note that Bluetooth LE isn't supported on Windows at the moment.
