A new website, along with new info available on December 27

The Cyanogen company is no more, or let's say that the US-based company has decided to cease all operations and services by the end of the year. Even though Cyanogen has promised that everyone will be able to make use of its nightly builds, the CyanogenMod website is now unreachable and it doesn't seem that it will be back.

But the good news is that a part of the CyanogenMod team will continue its legacy and development under a different name, LineageOS. According to a post on Reddit, the LineageOS forked from CyanogenMod source.

The group promised to launch a new website, as well as provide more info on its mission tomorrow, Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Since CyanogenMod lost DNS routing to its domains, we hope that all the contents of the website will be accessible via LineageOS' new site that will be officially launched tomorrow.

As some of you might already know, CyanogenMod was started as a non-profit, community-driven, open-source, custom Android project.

The Cyanogen company was founded by Steve Kondik with the purpose of selling CyanogenMod-based custom Android called “Cyanogen OS” to device OEMs.

It will take time to “revive the healthy development”

Even though CyanogenMod is a separate and independent project, it still heavily relies on development infrastructure and resources of the Cyanogen company, such as OTA update system, backport developers, automated software build bots, website, and download servers.

This means that when Cyanogen announced it was shutting down the company and its entire business, CyanogenMod was affected as well.

However, the LineageOS project plans to maintain the legacy of CyanogenMod and continue its development, so the latter will go completely community-driven again, under a different name.

But as members of LineageOS point out, “it will take some time to revive the healthy development. Organizing the community and structuring the development is the key. Also financial and development support will be needed.”
