The Documentation Foundation is preparing for the second bug hunting session for the upcoming LibreOffice 6.0 open-source and cross-platform office suite.

Announced today by Mike Saunders, the event will be held for the first time on a Monday, on November 27, 2017, from 8 a.m. UTC to 10 p.m. UTC. During the event, which will take place online, LibreOffice developers will try to triage and fix as many bugs as possible for the first LibreOffice 6.0 Beta.

A few days before the event, The Document Foundation will release the LibreOffice 6.0 Beta 1 builds for GNU/Linux distributions using either the DEB or RPM binary formats, as well as for macOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems. These beta builds can run in parallel with the production version, LibreOffice 5.4.

"Mentors will be available on November 27th, 2017, from 8AM UTC to 10PM UTC for questions or help in the IRC channel: #libreoffice-qa (connect via webchat)," said Mike Saunders, Marketing Assistant at The Document Foundation. "Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the builds of this particular Beta release (LibreOffice 6.0.0 Beta1) will be available until mid-December."

LibreOffice 6.0 launches at the end of January 2018

The first bug hunting session was held last month on October 20 for the LibreOffice 6.0 Alpha milestone, but now the office suite will enter beta testing soon. Two beta versions could be released if necessary, and will be followed next month by the RC (Release Candidate) builds.

At least three RCs could be released for LibreOffice 6.0 until the final version, which launches at the end of January 2018 for all supported platforms, including Linux, macOS, and Windows. LibreOffice 6.0 is expected to be a major release introducing numerous new features, and will be supported until November 26, 2018.

If you plan to participate in the LibreOffice 6.0 Beta bug hunting session, check out the details on the dedicated wiki page. During the entire month of November, The Document Foundation is awarding cool stickers to contributors across the project through their Month of LibreOffice initiative.
