Now that the LibreOffice Conference 2017 event is over, it's time for The Document Foundation to start the bug hunting sessions, and the first one was set for the end of the week, October 20, 2017, for the first Alpha release of the LibreOffice 6.0 office suite.

Work on LibreOffice 6.0, the next big release of the popular open-source and cross-platform office suite for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating system, begun this week with a focus on revamping the user interface as well as various of its core components, including Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress, Base, and Math.

A first bug hunting session is now set for the end of the week, on October 20, 2017, for the first Alpha snapshot of LibreOffice 6.0, which should be released very soon for all supported platforms. During the bug hunting, LibreOffice developers and contributors will try to fix any annoyances found in the office suite.

"Mentors will be available from 08:00 UTC to 22:00 UTC. Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the builds of this particular Alpha release (LibreOffice 6.0.0 Alpha 1) will be available until mid-November," said Mike Saunders, Marketing Assistant at The Document Foundation, in an announcement.

LibreOffice 6.0 scheduled for release at the end of January 2018

You can join the first LibreOffice 6.0 bug hunting session for Alpha 1 milestone on October 20 if you want to help the LibreOffice developers discover and squash bugs for the upcoming office suite. During the bug hunting session, developers will try to hunt bugs and test five of the top new features in LibreOffice 6.0.

The current release schedule of LibreOffice 6.0 shows that the major release could arrive in the last week of January or the first week of February 2018. LibreOffice 6.0 will have a total of six maintenance updates during its life cycle, which ends on November 26, 2018. Stay tuned for more LibreOffice 6.0 news soon as Alpha 1 gets released later this week.
