14 DAY TRIAL // The Document Foundation has revealed the second Release Candidate for LibreOffice 5.1.0, the first major update for the 5.x branch of the famous office suite.
The LibreOffice developer are preparing for a major upgrade to the office suite, but that shouldn't take anyone by surprise since they are following a schedule that’s been known for some time. It’s also worth noting that these kinds of big updates are usually preceded by bug hunts sessions and they have at least three Release Candidates.
Even if it’s the second Releases Candidate for this branch of LibreOffice, it’s still pretty big and it incorporates a large number of fixes. Some of them are pretty important, but we can’t help noticing that the first ones in the list are from Coverity, the famous company that specializes in software quality and security. They found some dead code, but that’s not all that unusual for big projects such as LibreOffice.
LibreOffice 5.1.0 RC2 is ready for testing
Testing the latest version of LibreOffice is not all that difficult, especially if you have an Ubuntu OS. All you have to do is add a PPA to the system. Just enter these commands in a terminal near you (note that the latest RCs haven’t landed just yet, but they should be here pretty soon):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-prereleases
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libreoffice
