The final Release Candidate for LibreOffice 5.0.4 is out

A new Release Candidate for the LibreOffice 5.0.4 branch has been revealed by The Document Foundation, and it looks like the final version is just around the corner.

The LibreOffice 5.x branch was declared as the most downloaded version released until now, and The Document Foundation says that more than the office suite is used by more than 100 million active users. This means that each new update needs to be good, and the developers have to make sure that what they put out won't ruin people's installations.

LibreOffice 5.0.4 is the next maintenance release, and it comes mostly with bug fixes and other small changes. Don't expect to see any major improvements, people should upgrade as soon as possible, nonetheless.

If you're using the 4.x branch, make sure that you really want to upgrade to the new one. It's a little bit different, although you might need to take that step anyway since the support for 4.x will end on December 31.

LibreOffice 5.0.4 is almost here

LibreOffice 5.0.4 only has a couple of Release Candidates planned, and RC2 was a really small one. This can only mean that the developers are ready and that a stable version (technically identical with RC2) will be out soon, maybe even today.

On the other hand, the first RC in the series landed with many DOCX fixes and a number of other changes, although none of them really stands out.

From the looks of it, LibreOffice 5.0.5 and LibreOffice 5.0.6 are also planned, and the support for 5.0.x is scheduled to end on May 29, 2016.

You can download LibreOffice 5.0.4 RC2 right now. Please keep in mind that it's a development version, and it's not meant for production machines. Also, you shouldn't install and run this version alongside the stable one. If you're patient enough, you should wait since the stable version is really close to the release day.
