Purism and Nextcloud announced partnership to bring Nextcloud's end-to-end encrypted file sync and sharing services to Purism's mobile and desktop computing products.
Purism is the maker of privacy- and security-focused computing devices, and they successfully manage to partner with big Open Source names like KDE and GNOME for delivering the best desktop solutions to its upcoming Librem 5 Linux smartphone.
Librem 5 will be a versatile device offering numerous open-source software products, among which we can mention Nextcloud's file sync and share solution, enabling end-to-end encryption cloud storage support.
"Partnering with Purism gets our software directly into the hands of customers, making their lives easier with security and privacy protection built-in," says Jos Poortvliet, Co-founder and Head of Marketing at Nextcloud.
Nextcloud's privacy-focused storage solution coming to PureOS
Nextcloud develops an open-source, self-hosted, and privacy-focused file sync and sharing solution for GNU/Linux distributions and users of other popular operating systems, but now it wants to become the default on Purism's Linux-based OS, PureOS.
PureOS is the GNU/Linux distribution used on Purism's Librem 13 and Librem 15 laptops, which will be shipping with Nextcloud's end-to-end encrypted storage solution by default. In addition, the companies plan to build a Purism NAS (Network-attached storage).
"Having Nextcloud applications built into the Librem 5, as well as default within PureOS, will help people have a convenient, ethical encrypted file storage service alongside other easy-to-use defaults," says Todd Weaver, Founder and CEO of Purism.
Nextcloud's privacy-focused file sync and share solution will make Purism's upcoming Librem 5 mobile device the most comprehensive free and open-source smartphones ever build. Librem 5's crowdfunding campaign just ended today with more than $2 million.
