Unveiled back in July, LG Wine Smart is a clamshell Android smartphone that might look outdated at first glance.

Even though the flip form factor stopped being popular among mobile phone users a long time ago, some handset makers continue to launch this type of products from time to time.

Samsung and LG are two of the companies that still release clamshell smartphones, but unlike the old models, the new ones are powered by the Android operating system.

The latest clamshell smartphone launched by LG dates from one month ago, as mentioned earlier, and is called Wine Smart. Even though it's powered by Android, the handset is aimed at senior customers, or at least that's how it was advertised by the South Korean company.

The flip smartphone is only available for purchase in South Korea as LG Gentle, but it looks like the handset maker has big plans for it.

It is expected to be priced under $200 outright

LG has just announced that its Android-powered clamshell smartphone will be rolled out globally beginning this month as LG Wine Smart.

The device will be initially launched in France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Kazakhstan, Japan and the United Kingdom, followed soon by other markets.

LG Wine Smart ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop right out of the box and sports a small 3.2-inch IPS LCD display that supports HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) resolution.

On the inside, the clamshell is equipped with a 1.1GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

There's also a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features LED flash and video recording, as well as a secondary VGA camera in the front.

It's also worth mentioning that the smartphone offers 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with AGPS, and microUSB 2.0 port.
