Costs like an Air, looks like an Air but it's not an Air

LG has recently announced that the "Gram" series of laptops will enter the US market in order to compete with Dell and HP ultrabooks.

What makes these laptops special is, of course, their weight. Despite the fact that the "Gram" series weigh 980 grams, they're actually some of the lightest and evidently thinnest ultrabooks around, with Apple's Macbook Air weighing well over 1kg. The LG Gram 13 and Gram 14 will come with an Intel Core i5 and i7 processor, 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.

The main reason LG wants to push the "Gram" in the US is to actually capitalize on the momentum of Windows 10, since the Korean company plans to sell the device in Microsoft Stores across the Unites States.

However, the funny part is that it will not benefit from the Windows new features at all. It doesn't have a touchscreen option or RealSense camera and not even Windows Hello. The only thing it’s got is probably glam, lack of serious weight and that it basically is a Windows MacBook Air clone.

LG is happy to sell in the US a similarly priced Windows 10 Macbook Air clone

Sure, it's got an IPS 1080p display and a fancy non-Skylake Intel Core i5 and Core i7, but it costs about the same price as the Air's $899 (€803) and comes with almost an identical unibody aluminum cover. It also doesn't have any keyboard backlight or an SD card reader, while connectivity while it comes with an HDMI port and a microSD reader.

Apparently, LG and Microsoft have partnered in selling the "Gram" laptops at its retail locations and on the Microsoft online store, bearing the bloatware free Signature Edition label.

It seems that the new Gram 13 and Gram 14 laptops will be sold starting today on Amazon with pricing starting at $999 for the Core i5 version and an $1,399 (€ 1,250 for an upgraded Core i7 and 256GB combination.
