14 DAY TRIAL // LG has just announced a compact variant of its current flagships smartphone, the V20. The new phone is called LG V20 Pro and will be available for purchase in Japan via NTT DoCoMo, starting February 2017.
There's no word on pricing yet, but we suspect this V20 Pro could be coming to Europe and other regions where the standard model won't be available.
LG was pretty clear in the last couple of weeks about the V20 and stated that it wouldn't bring the high-end device to Europe.
The V20 Pro is not really the same phone as the V20, so it might not gain the same level of popularity if LG decides to launch it in Europe. Despite its name, the Pro version of the V20 comes with smaller display and battery, as well as less storage inside.
The good news is it's still running Android 7.0 Nougat operating system right out of the box, along with the rest of the V20's hardware. It's also worth noting that the V20 Pro comes bundled with B&O Play earphones, just like the better-featured model.
However, instead of the large 5.7-inch Quad HD display included in the V20, the Pro model sports a much smaller 5.2-inch Quad HD main display, along with a secondary 2.1-inch display that supports 160 x 1040 pixel resolution.
Also, it only packs 32GB of storage, whereas the LG V20 comes with 64GB of internal memory. The V20 Pro is powered by a 2,900 mAh removable battery, slightly smaller than the V20's 3,200 mAh battery.
Obviously, the phone is much smaller and lighter than the V20, as it measures 149 x 72 x 8mm and weighs just 140g. In comparison, the LG V20 is 159.7 x 78.1 x 7.6mm and weighs about 174g (battery included).
We believe the V20 Pro has been especially developed for the Japanese market, so if it's to be released in other countries, LG will probably have to do some changes.
