LG presents its impressive, latest flagship product

With its controversial “Edge” line of smartphones, Samsung introduced secondary displays located on the sides of the device. Now LG comes with a different setup that has the secondary display live on top of the main screen.

As anticipated, today the Korean tech giant has unveiled the first phone of its V series, called the LG V10, which has been designed with a focus on multimedia.

The secondary display sitting on top will show the time, weather, date, the battery icon and notifications. What’s more, while the main display is on, the secondary screen can be used to run shortcuts or even open your most used apps. The secondary screen is “always on,” without taking a toll on your battery life.

The LG V10 comes with a 5.7-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution with 513ppi. The secondary display by itself measures 2.1 inches and features 160 x 1040 resolution, which also results in 513ppi.

LG V10 is a worthy upgrade over the LG G4

A Snapdragon 808 processor lives under the hood complemented by Adreno 418 GPU, just like in the case of the LG G4 flagship. LG throws in 4GB of RAM alongside 64GB of internal storage. Those who feel that they need extra storage can go ahead and increase it up to 2TB via the microSD card slot on board.

Moving on to the photography department, there are a few interesting aspects to be taken into consideration here. The 16MP rear-facing camera features an f/1.8 aperture and OIS 2.0 included (optical image stabilization). The LG V10 is also equipped with a dual 5MP front-facing camera that allows users to snap 128-degree wide-angle selfies.

The device takes advantage of the so-called Multi-View Recording, which means you can shoot video from different vantage points at the same time using all the three cameras on board and then decide later which version suits your needs best.

LG V10 marks a first - manual video mode

But as regards video, that’s not all. The LG V10 features a manual mode for video, which actually constitutes a first as far as smartphones are concerned. Users will thus be able to control frame rate, shutter speed, white balance, ISO and focus. Videos can be shot in three resolutions, that is HD, FHD and UD. You also have a choice between the normal aspect ratio (16:9) and cinematic (21:9).

What’s more, the phone also comes equipped with Quick Video Editor that helps you make post-production edits and Wind-Noise filter for cleaner audio.

The spec list of the LG V10 also includes support for 4G LTE-A (Cat.6), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, USB 2.0 and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed. The phone relies on a 3,000mAh removable battery to survive.

The new LG flagship features a stainless steel frame and a Dura Skin covering that is bound to protect it from scratches. A third-party laboratory has found that the LG V10 is “MIL-STD-810G Transit Drop Compliant,” which means it should live if you happen to drop it on the floor unexpectedly.

The LG V10 will be available in Space Black, Luxe White, Modern Beige, Ocean Blue and Opal Blue in South Korea next month. Customers in the US, China and other markets like Asia, Latin America and the Middle East can expect to get it soon enough too. Pricing information is yet to be disclosed.
