LG G5 was supposed to break the market and bring modular goodness to its users, but something went quite wrong and instead of being a hit, the model was quite the flop for LG. However, unsatisfactory sales didn’t affect LG’s decision to work on a successor.

A report from Credit Suisse (via the AndroidSoul) shows that LG could sell at least 5 million LG G6 smartphones next year. The device might be announced during next year’s MWC Barcelona in February, a highly-publicized event for presenting the latest advancements in consumer technology.

The report also mentions that LG recorded annual loses of about $1 billion this past year, surely influenced by low sales of the G5. The LG V20 was launched a few months ago, but didn’t manage to have a major impact on LG’s financial situation.

The V20 was surely an appealing smartphone, with its secondary display, enhanced audio capabilities and the fact that it was the first smartphone to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, before Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL. The G6 might not have the same modular design as its predecessor, considering that this was one of the phone’s main highlights.

The LG G6 might have a non-removable battery

Next year, the LG G6 will compete directly against the Samsung Galaxy S8 and flagships from other companies. If LG decided to ditch the modular design, then it will surely focus on premium features and a non-removable battery.

The phone could also have IP68 certification, considering that it has become a feature of many high-end flagships. Many will be happy to know that LG might not ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack and that the G6 could also include USB Type-C ports.

Moreover, the G6 could incorporate LG Pay’s mobile payment service with MST, as well as NFC. This means that payments will be made at POS systems with the latest technology and older ones as well.
