The phone’s camera is going to be the differentiator

Once upon a time, we were told that LG was forging a mighty phablet claimed to be of “super-premium” quality, which was supposed to be released to compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note5 and iPhone 6s Plus.

Since then, LG has backtracked this claim, saying that the phablet won’t exactly be that “super-premium,” although it will still qualify to be called a “flagship.” This left us wondering how LG will manage to differentiate the phone from its LG G4 series and from other high-end models present on the market.

Today, a new report coming to us from G for Games sheds a bit of light on the situation. According to industry sources familiar with the matter, the upcoming LG phablet will be a pro at shooting pictures. The new flagship will make a debut into the wild with a Dual Camera setup. We’re not given extra details on the matter, but they will probably become available in the upcoming weeks.

LG's new phablet to take advantage of Snapdragon 810

Since the phablet has lost its “super-premium” tag, there’s probably little chance that the Snapdragon 820 will be nestled on board to take care of all the things going on. And we’re not sure whether the phone will turn out with a metal build or not either.

As far as the other specs go, the same source indicates that the LG phablet will arrive on shelves with a 5.8-inch Quantum display with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and a Snapdragon810 chipset under the hood.

Interestingly enough, LG chose to go with the Snapdragon 808 for its current G4 flagship, probably afraid that the overheating issues plaguing the Snapdragon 810 would ruin the appeal of the device.

However, LG utilizes the Snapdragon 810 in its G Flex 2 phablet, which got launched at CES 2015. So it seems like the Korean company is open to using the services of this controversial silicon platform once again. We hope, for its own sake, that it chose wisely.

It remains to be seen, though, whether LG’s premium phablet is able to capture the attention of users and stir them away from the shiny Samsung Galaxy Note5 or iPhone 6s Plus. Time will tell.
