LG released the G6 premium smartphone a while ago and the Korean company is surely focusing on developing the upcoming high-end device, the V30. A recent patent application reveals a new display that could be featured on the V30 or other LG smartphones, according to a report.

The patent application describes an interesting hybrid design that does feature some elements from the LG G series, as well as the V series of premium smartphones. The screen seems to almost cover the front panel completely, while also featuring a secondary display at the top.

The phone depicted in the patent appears to feature a front-facing camera at the middle, as opposed to the selfie snapper on the V10 and V20. In addition, a number of icons are placed on both sides of the phone, somewhat similar to the secondary display on phones in the V series.

The top of the phone doesn’t reveal a speaker grille or the usual sensors, meaning that LG was imagining a phone that could have the speaker embedded into the display since the screen appears to cover the front side almost completely.

OLED display rumored on the LG V30

The fingerprint sensor could also be hidden beneath the screen, a feature that’s expected to arrive on the Apple iPhone 8. Samsung has also worked on such a technology, but it has yet to feature it on a smartphone. The bottom side of the sketch reveals a single speaker, USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, meaning that LG isn’t planning on ditching the jack as other companies did.

The V30’s display could be one of the main selling points of the upcoming smartphone, considering that LG could make the switch to an OLED screen in this model, one with 18:9 aspect ratio. In addition, the company must up battery capacity compared to previous models, considering that OLED displays take up more power than LCD screens. Still, an OLED display on the V30 could mean that LG would have the possibility to make adjustments to the design and perhaps feature curved screen edges.
