14 DAY TRIAL // Last year everyone was fretting about smartwatch and device manufacturers rolling out products from this category like there was no tomorrow. In 2015 things have been slowing down in the wearable world, partly because consumers haven’t been so keen on adopting these little, wrist-bound gadgets.
Still we can be certain some companies will be putting out new models this year. One of them is Motorola, which is expected to roll out a next-gen Moto 360 smartwatch, a sequel to its gorgeous, curvaceous wearable of last year.
Phandroid now suggests that LG might be looking to diversify its intelligent timepiece portfolio too, with an Android Wear smartwatch with a high-resolution display. According to the leaked information, the device is dubbed “Nemo” and features a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels with a ppi between 300 to 400.
A "fishy" Nexus smartwatch coming our way?
What’s even more interesting is that the smartwatch might be launched as part of the Nexus family. Google has a history of codenaming its Nexus devices using fish names. Nemo is a fish and so is Shamu (Nexus 6), Flounder (Nexus 9) or Hammerhead (Nexus 5).
Still we’re just guessing here as the LG G Watch was codenamed “Dory” and did not end up being a Nexus device. On the other hand, LG already teamed up with good, old Google this year in order to produce the Nexus 5 (2015) which should be making it out into the wild later this year, probably with Android M onboard.
So maybe, just maybe LG has also partnered up with Google to produce the first Nexus smartwatch ever. Having a Nexus intelligent timepiece with a high-res display out and about would certainly draw the attention of customers.
At this point, it’s still pretty early to tell whether Nemo will be a part of Google’s stock Android bunch, but the prospects sound encouraging. We’ll keep an eye out for more info related to the matter.
