Later this year Google is expected to uncover the first Nexus devices from its portfolio to take advantage of a fingerprint scanner. The Nexus 6 came pretty close to getting one, but Motorola dropped the plans before the phone was officially launched on the market.

The recent leaks related to the upcoming Huawei Nexus and Nexus 5 (2015) have confirmed this information, and the fact that Android M is set to arrive with support for fingerprint sensors also makes the scenario believable.

Now, a new report coming out of the Korean Herald reveals some information about the type of fingerprint scanner that will be employed by LG. The report says that the Korean tech giant plans to use the system not only on the Nexus handset it is building for Google but also on its next-gen flagship, the G5, and the much rumored G4 Pro.

LG's next-gen phones will come with fingerprint scanners

Apart from wanting to provide better protection of personal data to users using its products, LG is also trying to catch up with other mobile players who have already started tackling the mobile payment game. Samsung has Samsung Pay, Apple has Apple Pay, and Google talked about making Android Pay available for all smartphones with Android M on board.

The report doesn’t say where LG plans to put the fingerprint scanner, whether it will be rear mounted or located up in front embedded in the home button.

Yesterday, we reported about a leaked video that was supposedly showcasing the Huawei Nexus with a purported USB Type-C port and a fingerprint scanner living on the back. So, in all possibility, the same scenario will apply to the LG-made Nexus 5 (2015).

According to the most recent hearsay, the phone should arrive with a 5.2-inch full HD display with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and will absorb power from an unannounced Snapdragon 620 processor in combination with 4GB of LPPDR3-1866 RAM and up to 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage.

The new Nexus is said to be receiving power from a 3,100 mAh battery. It will also enjoy the services of a USB Type-C connector and Quick Charge 2.0 tech.
