The K series of smartphones is getting even bigger

South Korean handset maker LG announced its K series of mid-range smartphones with advanced imaging features last month at CES 2016.

No less than three Android smartphones in the K series have been released worldwide: K4, K7 and K10. All these devices ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, which might be a downside if LG plans to conquer the world with these cheap handsets.

The good news is this little issue will be fixed in the next couple of weeks since LG plans to launch yet another K series smartphone which will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard.

The folks over at Winfuture.de report that LG K8 will be officially introduced at MWC 2016 next week. The smartphone has already been listed on LG Hungary's website, so we can safely assume the smartphone will be unveiled very soon.

Even if the K8 doesn't benefit from a dedicated launch event since it's a mid-range Android smartphone, it will surely be showcased at MWC 2016 starting February 22.

Unimpressive specs under the hood

Aside from the fact that it comes preloaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, there aren't too many improvements over any of the previous K series smartphones.

For example, LG K8 will be powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, coupled with 1.5GB of RAM and just 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded via microSD card slot.

The K8 sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features 2.5D glass coating.

Also, the upcoming smartphone will pack an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

Last but not least, LG K8 should be powered by a 2,045 mAh battery, slightly smaller than LG K7's that packs a 2,125 mAh battery inside.
