Some phones are affected by an issue causing a “boot loop”

LG Nexus 5X, one of last year's Nexus smartphones, is still going to be supported by Google for one more year or so through regular software updates. But what about the hardware, what happens if your phone starts suffering from various internal issues that make it inoperable?

Well, it's pretty simple, as you have two options: either send it to the manufacturer for repairs which are covered by the warranty, or pay from your own pocket if you haven't bought it through official channels.

If it's the first option that applies to you, then the manufacturer will try and replicate the issue and then fix it by replacing the defective part. If it can't be repaired, you are usually given a refurbished unit of the same model.

But what happens if neither of these options applies? The only solution would be to receive a full refund from the manufacturer. Well, it appears that LG has just started to offer full refunds to some Nexus 5X owners who are experiencing serious issues with their phones.

There are several reports on Reddit that confirm some LG Nexus 5X units are affected by a serious defect that causes a “boot loop,” which renders the phones useless.

Unfortunately, since the LG Nexus 5X isn't being produced anymore and there are not parts available anymore, the South Korean company can't repair these devices. The stock of refurbished units seems to have been depleted as well, so the only solution is to offer customers full refunds.

If you are one of the unfortunate owners of a defective LG Nexus 5X smartphone still under warranty, then you might want to start the service process. LG is already contacting those who reported these issues:

We're sorry to hear that you've experienced a problem with your LGH790 and appreciate you giving us the opportunity to provide a warranty repair. We have received your device at our repair facility but currently a part to complete the repair is out of stock and is no longer available.

To rectify this issue, we would like to offer you a refund for the full amount of your device. That amount will be determined by your sales receipt. Your refund can take approximately 4 weeks to receive due to the holiday.”
